President Obama Issues Disaster Declaration Following Gardner, Delegation Letter

Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) welcomed the announcement today that President Obama has issued a major disaster declaration for the State of Colorado. The declaration releases Federal funds which will help communities in Baca, Elbert, El Paso, Fremont, Logan, Morgan, Pueblo, Saguache, Sedgwick, Washington, and Yuma Counties recover from severe storms and flooding earlier this year.

“I’m pleased that the President made this declaration, and hopeful that it will aid in Colorado’s quick recovery from these damaging storms,” Gardner said. “Officials from our state and local communities have responded swiftly and taken effective measures, and this declaration will allow them to continue the recovery process.”

Gardner, along with fellow Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Representatives Tipton (R-CO), Buck (R-CO), and Lamborn (R-CO), had sent a letter to President Obama urging him to make this declaration after the storms, which preliminary damage assessments estimate caused nearly $20 million in damages.
