Gardner Votes Yes for Mike Pompeo in Foreign Relations Committee

Washington, D.C. – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) voted yes in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Monday evening to recommend the Senate confirm CIA Director Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State.

“CIA Director Mike Pompeo is extremely qualified to be Secretary of State and the opposition to him by some of my Democratic colleagues is politics at its worst,” said Gardner. “The myriad of sudden supposed concerns or questions about his record in order to oppose him for such an important diplomatic role for this country is truly unfortunate. He has been an effective CIA Director, graduated first in his class from West Point, and previously served on the House Intelligence Committee. I have had the opportunity to get to know him well over the last few years and look forward to working closely with him as our next Secretary of State.”

Last January Mike Pompeo was confirmed to be Director of the CIA by a vote of 66-32.

Cory Gardner is a member of the U.S. Senate serving Colorado. He sits on the Energy & Natural Resources Committee, the Foreign Relations Committee, the Commerce, Science, & Transportation Committee, and the Budget Committee, and is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy.
