Gardner Votes to Confirm Mnuchin as Treasury Secretary, Shulkin as VA Secretary
Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) today released the below statements after voting in favor of confirming Steven Mnuchin as Secretary of Treasury and Dr. David Shulkin as Secretary of Veterans Affairs:
On Steven Mnuchin as Secretary of Treasury:
“Mr. Mnuchin’s decades of experience in business will serve him well as Secretary of the Treasury,” said Gardner. “His thorough understanding of financial markets prepares him to help implement pro-growth tax reform, spur job creation, and ease regulatory burdens on all Americans.”
On Dr. David Shulkin for VA Secretary:
“Dr. Shulkin pledged to institute significant reforms to transform the VA and restore trust in the agency. I’m encouraged that he committed to improving the benefits appeals process and ensuring patients receive timely access to care, and that includes seeing a doctor outside of the VA if the veteran cannot be seen in a timely manner or lives far from a VA medical facility,” said Gardner. “Congress must continue to exercise its oversight role and will continue to hold the agency accountable – as Dr. Shulkin requested during his hearing - to ensure veterans receive the world-class care that they deserve.”
Gardner will continue to work to see that the VA upholds its commitment to Colorado veterans and completes the Aurora VA hospital they were promised. The Senator also renews his commitment to ensuring that the VA’s gross mismanagement of the Aurora hospital project is not replicated.
Cory Gardner is a member of the U.S. Senate serving Colorado. He sits on the Energy & Natural Resources Committee, the Foreign Relations Committee, the Commerce, Science, & Transportation Committee, and the Budget Committee, and is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy.
