Gardner Statement on Paris Terrorist Attacks
WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement on the recent events in Paris, including the attack on the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and Friday’s hostage crises.
“The recent tragic events in Paris have saddened us all. My prayers are with all the victims in France, their families, and friends. We mourn the tragic loss of life and applaud operations which have saved the lives of hostages. Freedom of speech, even speech that some may find offensive, is a right that we hold dear. In a just world, it is not a right that anyone should have to die for.
“These events, and the perpetrators’ links to radical organizations, make it clearer than ever that the entire world faces a true threat in the form of radicalized, militant Islamic terror. Meeting this threat requires that the United States and our allies develop a clear strategic mission that confronts the enemies of civilization on all fronts; from battlefield and intelligence gathering operations to combating the rising scourge of online radicalization.”
