Gardner Statement on Iran’s Boost in Military Spending

Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the below statement on reports that Iran more than doubled its military spending, including funding for the development of its missile program, from the previous year:

“Iran’s expansion of its military and development of its missile program is a consequence of President Obama’s disastrous nuclear deal with Iran. Not only did the President’s deal provide Tehran a patient pathway to a nuclear bomb, it handed the mullahs over $100 billion to use for spreading terror around the world,” said Gardner. “I will continue to work with my colleagues to address the damage of the agreement by calling for immediate sanctions on Iran for its support of terror, a missile program, and human rights abuses. I urge the incoming Administration to support these actions to stop Iran’s aggression.”

Cory Gardner is a member of the U.S. Senate serving Colorado. He sits on the Energy & Natural Resources Committee, the Foreign Relations Committee, the Commerce, Science, & Transportation Committee, and the Budget Committee, and is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy.
