Gardner Statement on Iran Nuclear Agreement Legislation

Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement on the Committee’s passage of a bill providing for Congressional oversight of any deal reached between the Obama Administration and the leaders of Iran:

“Throughout this negotiating process, I have consistently advocated for Congressional approval of any deal reached. In order for an agreement with Iran to have international legitimacy, it first must have domestic legitimacy. The American people, through their representatives in the Congress, deserve to have a voice in a nuclear negotiation of such importance. It’s clear that if it were up to the President, he and he alone would negotiate this deal with the Iranian regime.  This bill gives Congress the chance to reject a bad deal, safeguarding the American people."
