Gardner Reacts to VA’s Response to Review of Denver Hospital Project

"The VA's proposed actions suggest that as long as you leave the VA before the massive bureaucracy determines you did something wrong, you are off the hook"

Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) today released the below statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced action and proposed actions against four individuals at the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) following the Administrative Investigation Board's (AIB) review. Additionally, the VA stated that prior to the AIB’s review, three individuals in key leadership positions for the Denver Hospital project were reassigned, and two individuals are no longer employed by the department.

“Based off of the VA’s response to its systemic failures that led to the mismanagement of the Aurora hospital project, it appears that federal employment comes with a get out of jail free card. The VA's proposed actions suggest that as long as you leave the VA before the massive bureaucracy determines you did something wrong, you are off the hook,” said Gardner. “In addition to the Office of Inspector General report, the VA must release the Administrative Investigation Board’s results that served as the basis for the VA’s proposed actions. I’ll continue to press for real accountability from the VA that veterans deserve, and won’t settle for anything less."
