Gardner Introduces Bill to Expedite LNG Exports
Washington, DC - Today Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) joined Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) and introduced the bipartisan “LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act” to expedite the approval of liquefied natural gas (LNG) export applications.
“Colorado is at the center of the American energy revolution. The natural gas industry helps power our state’s economy and provides thousands of jobs from the Western Slope to the Eastern Plains and beyond. I’m honored to join my colleagues in leading this effort to streamline the permitting process for LNG exports and boost the potential for future energy development throughout the country.
“LNG exports are more than good economic policy—they are also a matter of national security. Aggressive countries that control major flows of natural gas continue to endanger and threaten our allies abroad. Increasing natural gas exports here in the United States would allow us to provide some relief to allies currently tethered to unfriendly regional powers. I’m proud that this is the first bill I’m cosponsoring this Congress, and I look forward to continuing to work on similar legislation in the United States Senate moving forward.”
This legislation builds on previous efforts to expedite LNG export applications, including Senator Gardner’s H.R. 6 that passed the U.S. House of Representatives last Congress with strong bipartisan support, including from Democratic leadership.
