Gardner Continues to Push for Accountability at the VA

Washington, DC: Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the below statement following his visit with Veterans Affairs (VA) Eastern Colorado Health Care System Director Sallie Houser-Hanfelder on February 18, 2016. Following the VA’s February 4, 2016 Inspector General (IG) report, Gardner sent a letter on February 5, 2016 to VA Secretary Robert McDonald blasting the VA’s widespread mismanagement and poor implementation of the Veterans Choice program.

“The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) February 4, 2016 Inspector General (IG) report revealed our veterans are not receiving the care they deserve,” said Gardner. “After meeting with VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System Director Sallie Houser-Hanfelder, I am encouraged the VA in Colorado Springs has made some progress by hiring additional staff, but more needs to be done. We must hold the VA accountable for their mistakes and ensure the same problems are not repeated. Our veterans deserve the best possible care and I will not settle for anything less.”
