Gardner Calls on Trump Administration to Cancel North Korea Meetings, Increase Pressure on Kim Jong Un

Washington, DC - Today, Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the below statement following reports that North Korea has no plans to denuclearize:

“Despite commitments Kim Jong Un has made and repeatedly violated, North Korea continues to defy the will of the international community,” said Senator Gardner. “Today, we are nowhere closer to the only goal we should have - the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the North Korean regime. Kim Jong Un continues to break his promises, and his actions suggest the potential summit is dead on arrival. Until Pyongyang takes concrete steps to denuclearize we should further ramp up the sanctions and call for our global partners to join us in a maximum pressure campaign that will give Kim Jong Un two options: denuclearize or be further isolated from the world.”

Cory Gardner is a member of the U.S. Senate serving Colorado. He sits on the Energy & Natural Resources Committee, the Foreign Relations Committee, the Commerce, Science, & Transportation Committee, and the Budget Committee, and is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy.
