Gardner, Bennet Announce $12 Million FASTLANE Grant for La Plata County
Washington, D.C. – Senators Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Michael Bennet (D-CO) today announced the Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded La Plata County a $12,312,887 FASTLANE grant to “construct a new 1.7-mile alignment of US 550, connecting with US 160 at the Grandview Interchange. The new alignment will be completed with flatter grades, wider shoulders, a southbound truck climbing lane, and automated anti-icing systems.”
This grant is a result of the bipartisan 2015 highway bill, the FAST Act. In 2015, Gardner and Bennet advocated in support of this grant program as an additional tool to meet Colorado’s transportation needs.
“In 2015, I worked with members on both sides of the aisle to pass a long-term highway bill which included provisions that will benefit Colorado,” said Gardner. “This grant is a result of our negotiations and is great news for southwest Colorado. It’s also recognition of the need for ensuring our rural communities receive necessary resources. Maintaining and updating Colorado’s infrastructure must be one of our top priorities and I will continue to work in Congress to advance Colorado’s transportation needs.”
“The US-550 corridor is a critical transportation link for the San Juan Basin. This grant will help to provide long-awaited improvements to the region’s roads and support its energy, agriculture, and tourism economy,” said Bennet. “We must continue to invest in our nation’s roads and bridges to ensure that we maintain the assets and infrastructure that previous generations have built.”
This grant is now subject to a 60 day congressional review period.
