Gardner Applauds South Korea and Japan Agreement to Combat the North Korean Threat

Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy, today released the below statement applauding the signed agreement between South Korea and Japan to share military information in order to better detect nuclear activity from North Korea. Gardner has been an outspoken advocate for cooperation among our allies in the region to deter the North Korean threat.

“South Korea and Japan’s pact to share military information is a significant, positive step forward and I applaud their collaboration to combat North Korean aggression,” said Gardner. “The agreement will bolster the military posture and defense capabilities of our two closest allies in East Asia, while adding additional pressure on North Korea to peacefully disarm and cease its illicit activities. I call on the Obama Administration and the incoming Trump Administration to prioritize enhancing the trilateral alliance between our nations to deter the North Korean threat.”
