Gardner Applauds Passage of Balanced Budget

Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement today on the Senate’s passage of a balanced budget:

“When the new Senate majority was sworn in, we pledged to govern responsibly and change the dysfunctional way the Senate had been operating. With today’s vote approving the first balanced 10-year budget since 2001, we have started to deliver on that promise.

“This budget is a serious step towards addressing our rapidly increasing national debt and the federal government’s habitual overspending, both of which are a threat to American taxpayers and their livelihoods. This budget would balance within 10 years, provide for a strong national defense, strengthen Medicare, protect Social Security, and support a strong, healthy economy.

“I was proud to vote for this budget, and especially pleased to secure inclusion of my amendment protecting the water rights of Coloradans from federal overreach. My amendment would protect states’ ability to govern their own water laws, and protect existing water rights and permits from any future meddling by the federal government.
