Gardner Applauds Decision Blocking Federal Water Rule

Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) applauded the decision today by Federal Judge Ralph Erickson halting the implementation of the Obama Administration’s controversial “Waters of the United States” rule. The rule would drastically expand the federal government’s authority in regulating waterways and poses a significant threat to Colorado’s economy and Coloradans’ water rights.

“This water rule, if implemented, would absolutely drown Colorado communities in federal red tape,” Gardner said. “I am grateful for Judge Erickson’s decision, and agree wholeheartedly with his conclusion that this rule risks irreparable harm to the states it affects. The federal government should not be in the business of regulating tiny ponds, ditches, and intermittent streams when states and localities are in a better position to do so.

“This ruling is not the end of the fight against a federal takeover of America’s waterways. I will continue to support efforts to block this rule and its disastrous consequences for Colorado’s economy.”
