Gardner Announces Cosponsorship of the Music Modernization Act
Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) today announced that he will join the Music Modernization Act (MMA) as a cosponsor. The MMA is a long-negotiated compromise between a diverse group of stakeholders in the music industry that will modernize how licenses and royalties are structured for the music industry.
“After thorough and successful conversations with stakeholders over the last several weeks, I’m endorsing Senator Hatch’s bipartisan Music Modernization Act,” Gardner said. “This bill is the product of decades of work by those in the music industry and represents a sensible step forward for record labels, artists, songwriters, and many others in music and entertainment. I appreciate Senator Hatch’s leadership on this issue.”
Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) introduced the Senate version of the Music Modernization Act earlier this year after a similar bill passed the House 415-0. This legislation passed the Senate Judiciary Committee by unanimous consent and awaits final Senate passage.
