Gardner Announces Commerce Leadership Roles

Washington, D.C. – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) today announced his appointment to several key subcommittees of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee.

Senator Gardner will assume seats on the following subcommittees:

Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security

Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet

Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance, and Data Security

Subcommittee on Space, Science, and Competitiveness

“Each of these subcommittees offers an opportunity to engage with and lead on the issues facing our economy,” Gardner said. “From personal passions of mine like data security and consumer protection to the innovative policy required to set America’s technological and scientific agendas, I look forward to the issues these subcommittees will consider.

“Aviation in particular is of critical importance to Colorado, home to Denver International Airport and the more than 49 million passengers who came through the airport last year. Colorado is estimated to be home to over seventeen thousand pilots, and the Colorado Space Coalition estimates that there are over a hundred and sixty thousand space-related jobs in my state as well.

“Many of the other industries under these subcommittee’s jurisdiction, including the internet, science, and technology, are already responsible for thousands of good-paying Colorado jobs, and as our economy continues to modernize, these industries will be key drivers of our economic growth. I intend to use my seat on each of these subcommittees to strengthen Colorado’s economy and provide careful oversight.”
