Gardner: "A Historic Address, and Critical Opportunity"

Washington, DC – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), Chairman of the Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy, released the following statement on Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s address to Congress today:

“I’d like to thank Prime Minister Abe for coming before the United States Congress and providing us with his insight. Prime Minister Abe is the first leader of Japan to address a joint meeting of Congress, and his historic address comes at a critical time for relations between our two countries. The modern U.S.-Japan alliance, born out of conflict but bound now by friendship, is the backbone of security and stability in Asia. Our nation’s strategic future lies in Asia -- and as the United States becomes more intertwined with its fellow Asia-Pacific nations, close ties with Japan will be more important than ever. Through increased trade, increased security cooperation, and increased understanding of the shared challenges and opportunities in the region, we can ensure that this alliance only grows stronger, benefitting both of our nations.”
