Day Two of Gardner Farm Tour Includes Stops in Southern Colorado

Washington, DC –Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) finished day two of his annual Colorado Farm Tour on Tuesday. He spent the day in Prowers, Baca, Las Animas, and Pueblo counties.

“I had another great day meeting with farmers and local officials,” said Gardner. “Our rural communities have faced some new challenges over the last few years and as we start to craft the next Farm Bill, meetings like I’m having this week help me make certain that any major reforms we are developing for our agricultural programs are good for Coloradans first and foremost.”

Gardner started off the day in Lamar for a meeting with Dr. Linda Lujan, President of Lamar Community College. While most of the week is devoted to meeting with farmers, Lamar Community College has several classes for students hoping to get more involved in the agriculture industry and is another example of how the region is directly and indirectly impacted by a strong agriculture industry. Following his meeting with Dr. Lujan, Senator Gardner went to Springfield for a meeting with Baca County Farm Bureau members and local elected officials. Gardner’s next stop was in Las Animas County for a meeting with farm bureau members, county commissioners, and other members of the community in Trinidad and Hoehne at the Hoehne Community Center. In addition to answering questions on agriculture, Gardner also discussed healthcare, public lands, and foreign policy issues.

Gardner will complete day two of his farm tour in Pueblo this evening, where he will meet with Pueblo County Farm Bureau members at Milberger’s Farm.
