Admiral Michelle Howard to Accompany Gardner to State of the Union

Washington, D.C. – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) announced today that Admiral Michelle Howard, the current Vice Chief of Naval Operations, will be his guest at this year’s State of the Union address. Admiral Howard, an Aurora, Colorado native, has achieved numerous distinctions during her sterling Naval career, including being the first African-American woman to command a Navy warship at sea as well as being the first woman to achieve the rank of four-star Admiral.

“I am extremely excited to have Admiral Howard accompany me to the state of the Union”, Gardner said. “To be able to bring a guest who has served her country so impeccably over the course of her distinguished career is a tremendous honor.”

“From her time at Gateway High School in Aurora to her command of the USS Rushmore, Admiral Howard has blazed a trail that serves as a true inspiration for all Coloradans and, indeed, all Americans. I can’t think of a better guest for this auspicious occasion, and I’m grateful that the Admiral has agreed to come.”
