Cory on the Senate floor discussing the PORTS Act
Today, I took to the Senate floor to discuss the PORTS Act, legislation I've introduced to protect the American economy from crippling labor disputes at our seaports. Colorado exports countless goods overseas, and slowdowns or shutdowns at American ports threaten jobs in our state. The President already has the power to intervene in shutdowns through the Taft-Hartley Act. But as we saw in the recent West Coast port slowdown, the President can also refuse to act. My bill would strengthen and expand Taft-Hartley by granting state governors some powers currently reserved for the President to end labor disruptions.
